This is a homemade blanket. I’m fraid to wash it because of its mixture of yarns, 100% wool & synthetic. I have tried dry cleaning and Febreeze. Now it smells like mothballs with a Febreeze overlay!

You should be OK to launder it if you wash as wool. It will be the only way to remove the smell.

Ahhh.. you would really have to put it in the washer, besides you shouldn’t really be touching it that much if it smells like mothballs..

Mothballs are extremely toxic and even residue can cause headaches, respitory issues, irregular heart beat, heart palpitations, eye irritation.. death.. :(

You really have to get it washed, just try a low setting like gentle setting or delicates. . . sorrry..

if there is synthetic in the fabric you could wash the blanket in cold water and hang outside to dry. Use Lavender instead of moth balls it works just the same and has a much pleasant smell to it .

you can try the delicate cycle on the machine its suppose to be gentler

but your going to need to wash it either by hand (I suggest 3 tablespoons of detergent per 2 gallons of water) or gentl cycle small load I have a lot of hand stitched items that do just find in the washer on delicate/gentl thou I do hang dry them or roll dry them (you roll it up firmly in an absorbent cloth that can just be tossed into a dryer)
